Learning Lunches are a valuable opportunity to informally network with colleagues across the voluntary sector and to hear from some guest speakers who are experts in their field. These events are hosted by some special venues across Suffolk.

Following recent well-publicised charity failures, we aim to help you answer how to boost your charity’s financial resilience. We’ll look at reserves, which can be a tightrope: too large and they put off funders, but too low and you may fail to ride through changes such as loss of key funding. A well-crafted reserves policy gives a buffer and facilitates development. We’ll also consider the qualities of management accounting, which should be a crucial tool for trustee decision making and give early warning of trouble ahead.

Speaker: Giles Kerkham, Larking Gowen

Giles is Charities and Education Director at Larking Gowen LLP, Chartered Accountants, leading the independent exams and audits of charities across East Anglia.  He has specialised in advising charities and delivering trustee training for all of his professional career.  He has a passion for the charity sector, being a charity trustee and Audit Committee Chair within a multi academy trust group. His professional memberships include the ICAEW Voluntary Sector Specialist Interest Group, Audit Faculty and Financial Reporting Faculty.
