Volunteer Passport

East Suffolk Volunteer Passport Scheme

What is a Volunteer Passport?

The East Suffolk Volunteer Passport is a FREE accredited short course which will enable individuals to enter into volunteering activities while taking their training and knowledge from placement to placement. The focus will be on roles rather than specific community groups to allow volunteers to support various thus providing a bank of knowledgeable and competent volunteers for groups to access.

What is involved?

Individuals will complete 6 sessions covering key skills needed to volunteer. The topics include:

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Keeping yourself and others safe
  • Health and safety
  • Customer service
  • Person Centred Approach
  • Volunteer Placement Brokerage by Community Action Suffolk

Once completed, the individual will be awarded an accredited Level 1 certificate and a Volunteer Passport ID badge. The ID badge is a way of recognising the achievements and commitment to their volunteer status and can be worn when volunteering.

If individuals are not already volunteering, Community Action Suffolk will offer a brokerage service to support skills and interests.

If a role requires a DBS check, it will be the organisations responsibility to organise this.

Who can get involved?

This pilot scheme will concentrate on 3 areas of volunteering for current and potentials volunteers who would like to participate in the following areas:

  • Heritage and the Arts
  • Retail
  • Befriending and mentoring

There is no age limit and the scheme is open to anyone who volunteers or is thinking of volunteering in the East Suffolk area. Previous qualification or experience is not necessary.

Why get a Volunteer Passport?

  • It demonstrates basic skills needed to volunteer
  • Training will build on any volunteering experience
  • Support and improve wellbeing and community capacity
  • Support access to further training or employment opportunities

What’s in it for groups?

  • A more diverse range of skills, experience and knowledge
  • Motivated and engaged volunteers
  • Opportunities to build networks with other community groups through the sharing of volunteers
  • Raises awareness about your cause as well as your organisation
  • The development and delivery of activities, projects or services by bringing in new opinions, ideas or approaches
  • Deliver services or projects in a more effective and efficient way which can help to save money and resources

How can groups support the scheme?

We would like to begin the initial stages of setting up a network of local community groups who are willing to send their current volunteers on the scheme and who are also open to recruiting volunteers who have been on the course.

In time we hope to create a network of volunteers who can support a number of groups within the local community.
